‘For me Art is not for living but a way of living’
In my art practice I am relating with things that are beyond mere surroundings. Importance is given to factors that have deeper values specially emotions. We human beings are in general product of world around us, and connections that we create, whether with places, things, or each other. But rarely, we travel inwards. There is a whole new world within. I try and explore this connection through my artwork.
In each art work I try to concentrate in inner beauty, strength and desires.
Ria Sharma is a Dubai based artist. She was born in India in 1975. Being a Civil engineer she has fulfilled a strong successful profession in construction field for about 16 years. Seven years ago she accidently found herself in the middle of paints and brushes. The stress free incident changed her to the extent that she decided to follow her heart. She started practicing Art in Dubai in year 2009, where she took part in various exhibitions. Since then there has been no turning back.
The core inspiration for her comes from within. Not the outer beauty, but extraordinary will power and strength within. Ria is self-taught versatile artist and but her true passion has been play of cubism in her typical monochrome subjects and realism Her work mostly revolves around spirituality, internal harmony, social issues and humans in-need.
Civil Engineer B.E since 1998
Being a Civil Engineering and experience of 16 long years, generating artistic geometrical forms comes much natural to me. In my Cubist artwork, objects are analyzed, broken up and reassembled in an abstracted form—instead of depicting objects from a single viewpoint, the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context.
Cubism for me is also the fusing of my past and the present, the representation of different views of the subject pictured at the same time, also called multiple perspective, multiplicity, while Constructivism is influenced by common threads between the movements and simplification of geometric forms
- Soft and Strong
I am taught by my baba (father) that women are gifted with soft touch but in reality very strong. My current series ‘’soft and strong’’ is tribute to my father and all such fathers who invest in their girls
- Professional Diversity
The artwork encourage parents to expose their girl child to the various exciting possibilities. That the girls are capable to enter into any field, let it be engineering, journalism, sports, technology or aviation. It is proven at all academic levels that girls posses greater abilities to solve mathematical and analytical problems. So why not to give them a chance of professional education irrespective of the field. They are our resource for a better engineering and technical solutions.
My artwork is an illustration that shows Mathematical symbols, equations, books, pen, paint bushes and shuttle cock wrapped into silky curls of her hair.
These tool symbolizes women’s natural ability to also excel in professions that are generally dominated by men.
